My name is Kalpana Lewis. I heard about CCG College on the internet while searching for a qualification in Health and Social Care. Initially I was looking for job in care and qualification to accompany this because I had a personal experience of care from my family.
I applied for a Level 1 Course in Health and Social care and managed to get an interview with CCG College. The company liked my experience and enthusiasm and enrolled me in the course.
I started mandatory training and shadowed the Senior Carer while I was studying. As soon as I finished the Level 1 course, I applied for a position as a carer and then get offered an Assistant Carer Position. In the beginning, I dealt with personal care: assisted people with shopping and accompanied them to places they could not go alone.
After few months, CCG College offered me a BTEC Level 3 in Health and Social Care to further my knowledge. I gained some valuable information about care and how the care industry works. I had the opportunity to practice my training as I was working while taking the qualification.
I wanted to keep up to date with knowledge and information, as the care industry changes their rules and regulations regularly, as well as service users’ needs and how to deal with their requirements.
The teachers are very helpful and understanding. Whenever I needed support they have been always there. I have been working for CCG College for 3 years and have become a Senior Carer, which I had always wanted to be. I hope in the future to gain the qualifications needed to work in a hospital.
